Brunswick Housing Commission Units - Project No: 95138

Demolition, site clearance & civil works - 3 x 3 storey blocks Housing Commission units (93 residential units) Cnr Wilson & Barkley Streets, Brunswick, Victoria

Forty concrete housing commission flats spread out over three blocks. Each of the structures was four storeys high. Two of the blocks contained sixteen flats each and the third block contained eight flats. These structures were stripped out over two weeks, including asbestos removal, in preparation for mechanical demolition
Demolition works on these four storey structures commenced at 8.30am using a 100 tonne hydraulic excavator fitted with a seven cubic meter bucket. The demolition of these structures into a U-shaped windrow was completed by 12.30pm, in only four hours.
The excavator lifted its bucket over the building and then brought it straight down through the structure. This destroyed four storeys of rooms in just seconds.
The excavator is continuing along the last block of sixteen flats. It averaged less than six minutes to demolish a two or three bedroom unit.
Four hours after commencing demolition works there was a U-shaped windrow of concrete rubble waiting for concrete recycling.
